Welcome to eighth grade English and your last year as a middle school student!

This year, we will be studying a wide variety of topics, time periods, and genres. I can't wait to dive in!
One of our main goals in eighth grade is to help students prepare for the transition to high school. You will likely find that your responsibilities and our expectations are higher than before and more closely match what you will find as freshmen. Although the expectations are high, I am confident you can handle it.
I have always loved being part of the last year of my students' middle school careers. It is a fun and nostalgic but also intimidating time for students. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to ease the stress of this transition.

TEXTBOOKS

We will be using textbooks during class, but I see no need for the students to keep them in their lockers.  They are large and cumbersome, and we do not use them every day.  If you would like to have one at home, let me know.  Otherwise, textbooks will be kept in the classroom.  Also we no longer have access to the online textbook.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERING ONLINE
If you are interested in ordering books online through my Scholastic account, go to the Scholastic Reading Club website and use the code JLWD6
. These books are tax free and sometimes discounted. If you place an order online, please let Mrs. Cook know, so it can be finalized.

WEEKLY AGENDA
Daily assignments, including homework and upcoming tests and quizzes, are posted on the agenda board in the classroom at the beginning of every week. Students are given time to copy down the entire week's plan at the start of the period every Monday. If you have any specific questions, please call or email me.
